Shutdown news: Park is open!

Despite the current government shut-down, Grand Canyon National Park remains open. as per Grand Canyon Association from 1/20/18:


We wanted to update you on what’s happening at Grand Canyon National Park during the government shutdown.

The park remains open, as does Grand Canyon Association.


Here is the list of what’s open and what’s closed at the park. All of this is subject to change at any time, and we will make sure to update you as changes occur.


· Trails are open and the backcountry is open to those that have permits, but there is limited NPS staff available to offer assistance. The Backcountry Office is closed.

· GCA Park Stores at Kolb Studio, Verkamp’s, Yavapai Geology Museum, Grand Canyon Visitor Center, and Desert View Watchtower are open.

· All hotels and restaurants in the park and in Tusayan are open.

· The Market, Bright Angel Bikes, the Post Office, bank, and clinic are open.

· The General Store and Trading Post at Desert View are open.

· The Train is running.

· Shuttle buses are operating with regular routes.

· Mather Campground is open.

· Trailer Village is open.

· Viewpoints along Hermit Road and Highway 64 are open.

· The stairs in the Watchtower at Desert View are closed but the Kiva level is open.

· Ranger programs are cancelled.

· Kolb Studio Tours are cancelled but the building is open for self-guided tours.

· The NPS Main Visitor Center is closed but the GCA Park Store at the Visitor Center is open.

· Park Headquarters is closed.

· Tusayan Museum is closed.

· All applicable laws, policies, and regulations are in effect.
